Become a pet sitter
Pet Sitting is an ever growing industry in the UK as an increasingly popular way of doing some completly different with your spare time, especially in retirement. After suffering the heartbreak of loosing a much loved pet, it can be horrid to miss spending time with animals while being too hard to face replacing them. Pet sitting offers a lovely way of re-introducing yourself to pets without the commitment of taking on your all. As a single sitter, pet sitting can also be a fantastic way of keeping busy while getting out and about to meet new people. Many of my team have commented that before sitting they felt a little unwanted but now they feel that they have much more of a purpose and furfilment in their lives.
Many people now decide that it is a good way to to earn a little extra money as looking after pets is seen as being easy. Listing sites and Facebook groups make it look as though it will be so easy to pack a back and go! The reality is that there is a lot more to pet sitting than it may originally seem and the best pet sitters instantly understand the obligations and respibility required. In order to ensure that pets remain safe and happy while sitters are protected it is important that certain procedures, paperwork and insurances are in place. Likewise, it is vital that pet sitting is completed in a professional way, ensuring that legal obligations are covered. As a sitter, doing so gives you so much more peace of mind, as does knowing support is there if you need it. This is where we come in!
Joining our team ensures that all these things are in place! You can relax and enjoy spending time in different locations caring for lovely pets knowing that systems are in place to ensure that everything runs smoothly. As part of a bigger team we are able to look after you, offering support in the event of problem, relieving you from your pet sitting responsibilities should you be taken ill and ensuring that you are employed and that wages are paid properly.
We work hard to get to know our team of sitters helping us to find you sits that we know you will enjoy. You can pick and choose how often you want to work, where you want to go and what sort of pets you would like to care for without pressure! We can provide a back up sitter if you are already committed in your diary so that you can return to the sit another time, rather than risking loosing the client to another independant sitter. If you enjoy spending time in a certain area or enjoy looking after a certain breed of pet we will do out very best to find sits that fit! We very much cater to your strengths, loves and hobbies.
Prior to taking on any new client we always arrange a face to face prelim visit so that you can meet them. This gives you a chance to bond with the pets, find out what the clients require from you and to get a feel for the house. Although dismissed by some pet sitting companies we consider it essential. It is the only way to be sure that you are happy with the location, the pets, and the home. We want you to look forward to pet sitting, and to be contect and relaxed while you are there and this is the most important first set! There is nothing worse than worrying what the property might be like while taking away security worries. We do not want any sitter, particularly single ladies to be turning up at a property in the dark with no idea who is at the other side of the door!
When you join our team we will use our years of expertise to train you in Pet Sitting. There is a lot more to it then you might initially think and we can teach you the way to do things to keep your clients and you happy! Once you get started we are also on hand to guide you thru those first bookings, making arrangements, talking you thru prelim visits and ensuring that you are happy!
By working with us you have a point of contact between you and the clients. This means you can say things to us that you may not want to say direct to them! We can smooth over problems, and be a point of contact for both parties. This may seem like something you don't think you need but trust me, the first time a vase is broken or something goes wrong you will be glad that the worry is removed!
Our service is extremly popular so we are constantly recruiting new sitters to our team. We are look for trustworthy, responsible people who are animal lovers and would like to travel to different locations in order to fill their spare time. We look for honest, capable people who are friendly and adaptable. Flexibility, a passion for animals and a sense of humour is a key requirement!
Property sitting is an enjoyable and rewarding experience. Many of our sitters make firm friends with our clients and their pets giving them a real sense of satisfaction. There is a lot of pride in knowing that you kept a pet happy and content during what can be a scary time for them.
The position is paid and our sitters are provided with a provisions' allowance and traveling expenses. Full details are available in our Sitters Information Pack - simply click here to email for a copy!
What is expected of you?
Our main expectation is that you love and care for pets as if they were your own, following their usual routine and providing company and comfort. They will need to be fed, walked and cleaned up after. Some may need medication administering which will be discussed with you prior to the sit, usually at your prelim visit. You will also be expected to keep the client's property as clean and tidy as when you arrive. Some clients may require other basic tasks such as watering house plants and outdoor tubs, putting bins out and accepting deliveries.
Property sits last from a day to two months, but the average is 1 to 2 weeks. We also do part day sits if a client just requires a few hours cover and dog walking if a convenient. When you become a pet sitter you can choose the sort of assignments you would be interested in completing and have the option of turning down those which don't suit your requirements.
Who does Pet Sitting Suit?
Pet sitting is the sort of job that suits recently retired people with time on their hands looking to do something a little different. It is also great for those who are able to work remotely but are not able to have their own pets.
Although you are required to be at the property for the majority of the time, pet sitting is not something designed to be a full time job. We do occasionally employ sitters to only care for properties but the people we actively search our to employ are those who adore animals and value the opportunity to lovingly care for our clients pets as if they were their own.
